About

Welcome! This blog is about providing support to after school program staff who are also 4-H Leaders for military youth.

You will find program ideas, tips, training videos and community support for helping youth become productive citizens.

Now the official stuff:

The National 4-H Headquarters, at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has established formal partnerships with Air Force Services Family Member Programs, Army Child and Youth Services and Navy Child and Youth Programs to support positive youth development education for youth whose parents are serving in the military.  These 4-H military partnerships provide technical assistance and training for military staff and establish 4-H clubs for military youth ages 5-18 on installations.

The military partnerships with national 4-H are an important part of both school-age and teen center programming in Hawaii and around the world.  Youth who must move with their active duty military parent(s) can count on being able to join a 4-H club and continue learning in a project area or switch project areas as interests change.  The familiar sight of the green clover, 4-H pledge, and meeting structure may help young people settle in more quickly and make friends when frequent moves change other parts of their lives.  For more than 100 years 4-H has been a building block in the lives of young Americans.  Dedicated leaders and other caring adults make it possible for youth to become smart (head), caring (heart), productive (hands) and active (health) members of communities.
